What is Mothers in Business?
Connecting career-oriented mothers in Finland
Mothers in Business (MiB) is a nationwide network that supports career-oriented mothers in balancing work and family. Our members support each other to develop skills, advance career paths, and combine working life with family life.
We organise a variety of events, such as company visits, training sessions and mentoring, in 10 municipalities around Finland for our members to gain new skills and build networks. All activities are designed for mothers with children of all ages – from early pregnancy to those who are back in working life. The founding idea is that all of the events allow women to come along with their children. Our members also share their experiences on career and family life in our active groups on Facebook.
MiB began in 2014 when five mums in Espoo were hoping to find some other activities where babies would also be welcome, apart from the usual baby swims and toddler gym classes. As there were no networks dedicated to professional mothers, they decided to create one. Their aim was to connect career-oriented women in Finland.
MiB has since grown into a national network with more than 4000 members and hundreds of volunteers. The events are organised mainly in Finnish but the first English-language activities launched in 2020 via the MiB International project.
